Private Presidential Meeting

The Situation

For nearly 30 years, Homeboy Industries has provided hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community. President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative aimed at empowering African American and Latino youths. Vectis wanted to connect the two.

The Strategy

  • Engage with top White House officials.

  • Articulate compelling connection between Homeboy’s mission and the President’s initiative.

  • Executive extensive top-level coordination.

The Result

Homeboy’s founder Father Greg Boyle SJ, and four former gang members met privately with President Barack Obama in 2014. The president individually spoke to each one of the teenagers with Father Boyle. As the Associated Press and LA Times reported, the meeting was part of President Obama’s private schedule during a visit to Los Angeles.
