In June 2023, a massive toxic algal bloom appeared off the Southern California coast. The bloom caused sea lions to be infected with domoic acid, a neurotoxin. The Marine Mammal Care Center - LA County’s only year-round rescue and rehabilitation facility - became inundated with animals and needed to get the public safety message out about the beached sea lions and the danger they pose to beachgoers.

During the outbreak, Vectis secured and facilitated:

  • Over 30 minutes of coverage on CNN, including four live segments, in the span of five days.

  • 2+ hours worth of segments across all local news stations over two days

  • Live reporting and interviews on two separate days at the Marine Mammal Care Center

In 2021, Vectis DC helped launch the California Coastal Caucus - which brings together members of the California House delegation to discuss and shape federal policies to address crucial matters on the 840-mile California coast.
