Deb Jessup, CNM, PhD brings over 40 years of experience in health policy, women’s health, nursing, and midwifery, having spent the last 18 years as a senior staff member for a high-ranking Congressmember.

Jessup served as the senior health policy advisor for then Congresswoman and Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard for nearly two decades. The only midwife to have ever worked in Congress, she helped develop a robust public health, nursing, and maternal health legislative agenda, including writing and shepherding multiple bills through Congress. She also helped found two bipartisan caucuses – the Public Health Caucus and the Maternity Care Caucus.

Jessup is a Fellow of the American College of Nurse Midwives. She earned a PhD in nursing at George Mason University. Jessup also earned a dual master’s degree in health education and nursing midwifery at Columbia University.
